Beagle Bay Mission and community was developed and established by Trappist Monks around the 1890’s, on Nyul-Nyul country. Beneath the gleaming white exterior and spectacular pearl shell inlay altar, lays a sometimes dark and sad history. Hear the full story of Beagle Bay Mission and the proud Nyul Nyul culture of the Dampier Peninsula.

Get ‘hands on’ with traditional Nyul Nyul artifacts. Learn their uses and how they were made. Body paint with local natural ochres and understand the importance of different ochres in cultural dances and ceremonies. Find out how the changing political landscape of Australia affected Aboriginal people in the Kimberley from the early 1900’s through to the present day.
